Wiring is one of the most difficult items to identify upfront to ensure that the contract price includes all the wiring the homeowner anticipates. Many builders price their contracts on basic wiring or even just to code. This creates the need for change orders and added expenses. Absolute Construction’s base pricing includes wiring far and above the basic code taking in account for additional receptacles, switches and recessed lights in addition to wiring and hanging ceiling fans in all bedrooms, living rooms and covered porches, under cabinet lights, dedicated circuit in garage, wall mounted TV receptacles, flood lights, USB outlets and pendant lights. We often add an allowance line item for additional wiring to cover items that come up in the walk through that weren’t anticipated during the contract pricing.
Part of the process is working with an electrician who understands that each home that is built is a custom home and homeowners may need a couple visits to determine the perfect location for their receptacles, lighting and switches. Jason Pope of Jason H. Pope Electrical Contractors, LLC (919-820-0837), willingly meets with homeowners when needed to address these changes.
Absolute Construction also uses Eaton circuit breakers, which have enhanced its Premium Type CH Residential Circuit Breakers making the best even better. The National electrical Code requires Arc Fault Circuit Interrupters (AFCI) in certain locations in the home. Arcing faults, a common cause of many home electrical fires, can occur when insulation around cords, wires or cables is damaged or deteriorated. Eaton’s FIRE-GUARD and Combination arc fault circuit interrupters (AFCI) mitigate current arcing faults and offer premium, reliable protection. The Type CHF Arc Fault Circuit Interrupter (AFCI) includes advanced technology, which reduce nuisance tripping and a standard diagnostic LED indicating 1 of 6 trip codes. These features further establish the CH series of products as “Best in Class.”
AFCIs trip because they are detecting an abnormality on the circuit. Reasons for a trip can include the following:
· Detection of an arcing condition within the circuit
· Overloading of the circuit by using too many electrical devices at once, potentially damaging the wire
· Wiring issues causing current to flow on the ground wire
· Power quality issues such as lighting strikes or surges
Electrical interference from electronic devices and equipment can conduct high frequency noise, which may interfere with the operation of the Arc Fault Circuit Interrupter. Typically, these devices are low cost designs and or which do not incorporate any components in order to filter or mitigate this noise. Per the FCC, all devices being used on a public utility are required to meet the limits for conducted emissions. FCC Part 15, Section 15.107
