Growing up in Yugoslavia, construction was always a family business. We enjoyed working alongside family members and being able to support family values. We would love to have our children join our business one day and now we have one more family member to focus on.
On November 19, 2015, I became a first time grandparent. My granddaughter, Harper Kathleen Bilot, was brought into this world by my oldest daughter Teryn who currently lives in Wisconsin. Lisa, my wife, was in the delivery room and got to be there for the labor. It was a very emotional experience that created a new bond between her and Teryn. Harper was only 6 pounds 8 ounces and 20 inches long but she was perfectly healthy and surprisingly strong. I flew to Wisconsin less than a week after Harper’s birth and she instantly stole my heart. Jake and Sarah, my two younger children, and Janet, my mother-in-law, came to Wisconsin also and we got to have our first thanksgiving together as one big family.
Harper is just shy of three months today and is weighing in at just over 9 pounds and grew two inches in length. She loves to cuddle and nuzzles into any cozy space and did I mention her smile? She loves to make eye contact and smile. I recently got to see her again while we went on a family vacation in Colorado. Hanging out with Harper was more fun than the snowboarding and I was happy to spend time with her so her mom and dad could get out on the slopes. We all had a great time together.
If you know Lisa and me (even if we have only met once), you will probably get sucked into looking at pictures of Harper and hearing stories from when we get to visit her. There is nothing quite like being a grandparent!
